A Stroll Down Memory Lane

A Stroll Down Memory Lane was the theme of the January 20, 2010, Mary Leonard Law Society (MLLS) regular meeting, featuring Kathleen Rastetter, Oregon Women Lawyers’ (OWLS) historian.  Ms. Rastetter and Heather Vogelsong, MLLS historian, recounted briefly the life of Mary Gysin Leonard. 

Mary Gysin was born in France about 1845 and later migrated to Portland, Oregon...

Leadership Stories—Road To The Bench

On April 8, 2010, four women judges representing four different Oregon state courts gathered at Willamette University’s Cat Cavern with more than 20 lawyers, law students, and law faculty to discuss the “Road to the Bench.” The  panel included Oregon Supreme Court Justice Martha Walters, Oregon Court of Appeals Judge Ellen Rosenblum, Marion County Circuit Court Judge Claudia Burton, and Oregon Tax Court Presiding Magistrate Jill Tanner. Three Perspectives of Domestic Violence

Domestic violence was a major causal factor in the murder of 35 women and children in the first four months of this year (2010). That sobering statistic was shared by Jayne Downing, Executive Director, Mid-Valley Women’s Crisis Service, who was one of the three individuals participating in the Mary Leonard Law Society Continuing Education Program entitles Three Perspectives of Domestic Violence.
